Combating Mental Illness with Being UnNormal
Podcast Host Changes the Mental Health Game

Camas, WA – With Mental Health Month coming up in May, Kimberly Berry, founder of Being UnNormal, is on a mission to educate everyone about mental health issues.

Something many people may not know is that one in four children in America will suffer from a mental health issue before they turn eighteen. On top of this, according to the CDC, suicide is one of the leading causes of death among children ages ten to twenty-four, and the rate has steadily gone up over the past twenty years. With the additional mental health stressors happening across the nation due to Coronavirus, it’s never been more important to be aware

That’s where Being UnNormal comes in. Being UnNormal is a podcast that seeks to educate and empower people everywhere about all manner of mental health issues. The aim is to counter misinformation and stigma that can discourage those who need help from getting it. The Being UnNormal Podcast tackles a wide variety of mental health issues, including Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, ADHD, Sexual Trauma, Schizophrenia, and much, much more. All episodes are available to stream on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, and Google Podcasts, among others, and with season 7 on the way, it’s the perfect time to jump in.

Additionally, Being UnNormal offers coaching services for parents with children who struggle with mental health issues. For parents whose children are experiencing mental health crises, this is the perfect opportunity to learn how to adapt to what can be a scary situation. This program paves the way for adapting parenting styles that suit a child’s specific needs, stop power struggles or stop the fighting, reconnect with family members, and allow for caretakers to care for themselves during what can be a stressful and lonely experience of struggling with the mental health of a child.

From an early age, Kimberly Berry watched her friends and family struggle with their mental health, and as she got older, she experienced many similar issues as well. However, it wasn’t until her own children experienced a mental health crisis that she launched into action, working to create desperately-needed resources for those struggling to get a grip on their mental health.

Since then, she has worked with thousands of people around the world, hosting a summit in Camas, Washington on issues like Anxiety and suicide and helping companies create mental health inclusive environments for both employees and employers. One of the most important aspects she stresses about Being UnNormal, however, is that it isn’t all theory: both the podcast and the coaching program provide a mixture of both professional and personal experience. She knows what it’s like to experience these struggles first-hand, and she uses her experiences to give Being UnNormal a more impactful, personal experience for everyone involved.

Anyone with the desire to seek help or educate themselves about mental health can find more information on Being UnNormal’s website or listen to the podcast on available apps such as the website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, and more.
