ATLANTA & CHAMPAIGN – Jimmy John Liautaud, founder and former chairman of Jimmy John’s, has focused his attention and experience within the food industry to assist the White House in getting America back to work.

As the global coronavirus pandemic continues to have a detrimental impact on the labor market, the rapid pace of layoffs appeared to be easing. In response, some of the planet’s most respected business leaders are helping the global effort to combat the COVID-19 outbreak while ensuring strategic adjustments are made to get the American economy up and running again. Jimmy John Liautaud is taking on this challenge and was recently selected by the White House to be a member of the food and beverage revival industry group to advise policymakers when they attempt to reopen the economy.

“Once our leaders give us the go ahead to reopen, Mom and Pop businesses will lead the way. When small town America wins, the United States of America wins.”

Liautaud also said the $2.2 trillion relief package will provide some help to small businesses, but he’ll be encouraging decision makers and business leaders to focus on using free markets to help the economy, a consistent theme of his.

“That’s why the small business and free enterprise and the free market is so efficient. So, these small businesses will do what the customers want,” Liautaud continued. “And they will do it before the government tells them to, because they’re pretty quick on their feet”.

Marvin Irby, interim president and CEO of the National Restaurant Association, was named to the food and beverage industry group along with Jimmy John Liautaud and 21 other executives.

“Economic forecasts reveal the industry will sustain at least a $225 billion loss and be forced to eliminate between 5 million to 7 million jobs over the next three months. Despite this extreme economic hardship, restaurants continue to step up in every neighborhood across the country to feed and unite their communities,” said Irby.
