Blame It On Revere! is recognized for its outstanding writing, design and overall market appeal out of thousands of books submitted into the Book Excellence Awards.

Blame It On Revere! is a captivating children’s picture book that offers an insightful look at New Hampshire’s early role in the American Revolution. When the Sons of Liberty learned that the British would head to Portsmouth, New Hampshire to collect munitions at Fort William and Mary, Paul Revere rode ahead to warn them. The New Hampshire men hid their ammunition inland, thereby thwarting the British plot; an event that for many, marked the true starting point of the war for independence. Blame It On Revere! was named a Finalist in the Children’s Education category of the Book Excellence Awards. The awards competition is dedicated to recognizing both independent and traditionally published authors and publishers for excellence in writing, design and overall market appeal in over 100 countries around the world.

The prestige of the international Book Excellence Award has validated the merit of… my first foray as a children’s author,” says author Angela Welch. With over 44 years of experience in elementary and special education, Welch was awarded the Historic Preservation Award by the New Hampshire Daughters of the American Revolution for her work with Blame It On Revere! Now a multi-award-winning author, Welch has established herself as a notable expert in the children’s historical fiction genre, with a goal of showcasing how historical figures, such as Paul Revere, transcend beyond specific well-known historical events. “Regional events link through well-known historical figures which has an impact on an outcome…in this case, this was the beginning of our nation…Paul Revere made a ride to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in December, 1774 prior to his famous ride in April, 1775, setting the stage for the beginning of the American Revolution.”

In Blame It On Revere!, history leaps off the page and captures even reluctant readers by shedding light on a little-known event that led to a pivotal moment in American history. Written in creative, rhyming verse, the story is complemented by beautiful, watercolor illustrations that bring important themes and lessons in the story to life. In addition, the rhymes act as a helpful tool in teaching children to read, and give children an opportunity to foster curiosity and awareness through literacy. This insightful book will teach your children the foundational and aspirational ideas that are woven into the United States of America— such as life, liberty, and justice for all—and how those principles were won by communities who worked together for a common cause.

Blame It On Revere! has received positive reviews from well-known literary organizations, educators, and reviewers around the world. Fifth grade NH teacher, Karen V. writes, “With the style and clarity of prose, Blame It On Revere! gives a glimpse into a little known prologue to Paul Revere’s more famous ride. Welch highlights New Hampshire’s place in the historical record to further our understanding to the precursors to a revolution.” In addition, librarian Cherie-NH writes, “I loved reading about all the NH locations where history was being made. NH students will love the text and the connection to Paul Revere of Paul Revere and the Sons of Liberty to their own state.
